Founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an organization that seeks to interest youth in science and technology through various programs. We explain what FIRST does and we also offer downloadable resources for other robotics teams.

Our Team

Westside Boiler Invasion (WBI), FIRST Robotics Team 461, is a competitive high school robotics team based in West Lafayette, IN. Team 461 is composed of high school students attending West Lafayette Junior/Senior High School, mentored by teachers, college undergraduates from Purdue University, and community volunteers.

What We Do

While the robot is a significant part of the FIRST experience, in addition, WBI annually creates a 3D computer animation and writes a Chairman's Award document that describes WBI's accomplishments in spreading science and technology throughout the community. Information about activities such as competitions and scouting is also available.

Team 461 offers a visual and exciting look at the team through various photos and videos. There are also several scouting photo galleries of the other teams' robots collected during competitions to assist other teams with their scouting.
